At COTTON DAY in Indonesia, “The Journey to a Smart Cotton Future” Starts with U.S. Cotton

Southeast Asia, Global

Nearly 400 Indonesian textile industry players attended the 7th annual COTTON DAY in Jakarta, an invitation-only event hosted by Cotton Council International (CCI) to celebrate the importance of U.S. cotton to Indonesian mills and expand its usage.

“The journey to a smart cotton future starts with U.S. cotton fiber,” said Rio Hartanto Jap, CCI Representative for Indonesia. “U.S. cotton’s sustainability, quality, transparency and innovation—including two business-building programs, COTTON USA SOLUTIONS® and the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol®—clearly set it apart as a superior fiber. We encourage Indonesian mills to produce more yarns, fabrics and garments made of U.S. cotton and see for themselves why it’s ‘The Cotton The World Trusts.’”

This COTTON USA™ event, held at the Westin Hotel Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 September 2023, featured thought-provoking seminars, U.S. cotton exhibitions, a networking forum and a fashion show of U.S. cotton-rich garments by esteemed mills, brands and fashion designers in Indonesia. Participating partners included: Argo Manunggal X Project Sekar, Duniatex, Apac Inti Corpora, Bateeq, Samase, Mega Perintis, Lucky Print, Hakatex and Indo Liberty Textile.

COTTON DAY also featured presentations from six U.S. cotton industry speakers: Bruce Atherley, Executive Director, CCI; Razvan Oancea, Senior Director Asia, CCI; Joerg Bauersachs, Head of the COTTON USA™ Technical Team; Hopie Brooks, Director of Export Sales, Staplcotn; Alan Vinson, Lead Texas Trader, ECOM USA, LLC; and Neeraj Rana, CCI Board Director and Cotton Trader, Louis Dreyfus Company.

Mills learned how they could achieve peak performance with U.S. cotton through COTTON USA SOLUTIONS®, five business-building programs that show how using U.S. cotton can boost a mill’s productivity, efficiency and profitability.

Led by the COTTON USA™ Technical Team, whose vast experience provides unmatched expertise in U.S. cotton spinning, these offerings include COTTON USA™ On-Site Mill Visits, The U.S. Cotton Academy, the COTTON USA™ Mill Exchange Program, U.S. Cotton Seminars and the COTTON USA Mill Performance Index® (coming in 2024). COTTON USA SOLUTIONS® programs are complimentary for U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol® members who meet U.S. cotton purchase requirements.

The U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol® is a voluntary, farm level science-based sustainability program that is setting a new standard for delivering value to all stakeholders across the entire supply chain from farms to finished products. It is the only system that provides quantifiable, verifiable goals and measurement and drives continuous improvement in six key sustainability metrics – land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency. It is also the world’s first sustainable cotton fiber program to offer article-level supply chain transparency to all members.

“U.S. cotton is at the forefront of the journey to a smart cotton future,” Rio said. “Mills in Indonesia have a prime opportunity to boost their business with U.S. cotton, and CCI is here to help.”
